Packing Up and Leaving Town

Wow, it sure has been a long time since I've made a blog post.  Way too long.  Well, most of you know by know that we're moving to Arizona.  Alan accepted a chemist position with Fujifilm, in Mesa, and will start with them September 12th.  I'm so excited for him.  This has truly been a gift from God and something that only He could orchestrate in his perfect timing.

If you have a few minutes, pull up a chair and listen to a tale.  It's about a boy and a girl... okay, I won't go that far back.  This whole Mesa thing started about 2 years ago.  See, Alan is employed by Wacker Chemical, here in Adrian, MI.  Wacker and Fujifilm have a joint venture, so to speak, called Planar Solutions, which is the actual program that Alan works in.  During their time as a joint venture, Alan was called upon to go down to Mesa to do some work for Fujifilm and every time they needed someone to go down there, Alan gladly volunteered.  This eagerness to go showed his dedication and his hard work, while down there he showed his determination and value.  Last November, Fujifilm bought out Wacker's stake in Planar Solutions and the ball has been rolling since.

Somewhere in his daily conversations with his boss, Saeed, they discussed how much Alan enjoyed being in Mesa and if a job opportunity opened he'd be interested in moving there.  Nothing more really materialized out of that but a few flights of fancy, nothing serious.  Then during the first week of August, his boss told him to submit his resume to Fujifilm.  And so he did.

On Monday, August 8th, he got an email from the HR department at Fujifilm, asking that he call them to discuss his resume.  He agreed to do so at 4:30 PM EDT as he would be home and he could speak in private.  And so he did.  Over the next 45 minutes he gathered all the details that would change our lives forever.  The biggest of which was the agreed upon start date - September 12, 2011.  That's just 6 weeks away!!!  Panic set in but one of those good panics that's partnered with sheer excitement.  It was so intense we couldn't sleep, worse than the night before Christmas as a 6-year-old kid.  Worse because we had to work the next day and we couldn't sleep.  So we stayed home and began planning.  We searched the internet for apartments in the greater Mesa area and quickly realized the magnitude of this move.

So after several days of research, we've found about five apartment complexes - more like resorts - that we'll be checking out when we head down there this next weekend.  We fly out the night of August 18th and will return home on August 22nd.  While there, we'll check out some apartments and hopefully we'll sign a lease.  We'll also have dinner with his boss Saeed (he was always a Fujifilm employee but recently moved back to Mesa) which is his thank you to me for being so patient with Alan's trips to Mesa and the uncertainty of it all.  We also plan to do a little sightseeing, especially the mountains.  We are so excited.  This won't completely replace the vacation we had planned for next month but it'll be a nice getaway.

Meanwhile, we've told our places of employments our news and have received nothing but words of congratulations, best wishes, and a few bits of wisdom.  They are sad to lose us as employees but happy for this opportunity.  We have both worked nearly 8 years in our current positions so it's hard to say good-bye and leave in just a short 2-1/2 weeks.

Here we are now, watching the rain and packing up our house.  A house full of memories and, sadly, some shattered dreams.  This new job and cross-country move to a new city, a new state, a new lifestyle, a new world is just wanted we needed.  The first for starting a new life.  We can finally close the book on the last 35 years and start a new one.  The last page has been read with eagerness for the next one by that amazing author, God.  It will probably be a romance novel filled with suspense and adventure, sprinkled with laughter and a dash of tears.  All I know is that I'm blessed to be reading this novel with my best friend as God lovingly writes it one line at a time.
